Experience
I find tutoring very rewarding because academic success is not just about getting good grades, but also about learning to love learning and thinking for yourself. I completed a bachelor's degree in philosophy with a minor in Biblical studies at Biola U., which led me to teach theology through a local church and work with high school students. Currently as a tutor, I focus on mathematics and English, which is a way not only to help students hone their critical thinking and communication skills, but for me to learn the same lessons. I especially enjoy teaching English because our use of words clarifies our thoughts to others, and this is a very important, universal skill. Mathematics is an important study area as well, because it can help us learn to solve complex problems outside of the math classroom. Although I tutor specific subjects, I want my students to generally enjoy school and learning so they get the most out of the education they receive. I hope I instill in them the passion to continue learning after they graduate. In my free time, I enjoy staying in shape, both at indoor gyms and in the great outdoors. I also really like to work on cars.
